I don't know that Sara Bareilles is a very recognizable artist yet, but I think she's certainly on her way. You most likely have heard her recent hits "Love Song," and "Bottle It Up" which appear on her album "Little Voice," released by Epic Records in 2007. Those two songs are a bit commercial for my taste, but the rest of the "Little Voice" album is very good.
One of my favorite songs of hers is "Gravity," which was most recently featured as a coreographed dance piece on So You Think You Can Dance this summer.
Sara's music has a lot of strength and emotion behind it, and the timbre of her voice matches the emotional tone of her lyrics in a powerful way.
You can view the music video for "Gravity" below. I especially like the different elements of the video that represent travelling through space.
Bonus Video: Sara teams up with Ingrid Michaelson on "Winter Song" for the all-female album, "Winter Songs," presented by The Hotel Cafe. It looks like elements of this video are 2.5D, making this especially fun to watch. :)
